FULL TEXT : STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 2015
Fellow Nigerians,
I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections.
I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure.
Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress.
As I have always affirmed, nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country is more important than anything else.
I congratulate all Nigerians for successfully going through the process of the March 28th General Elections with the commendable enthusiasm and commitment that was demonstrated nationwide.
I also commend the Security Services for their role in ensuring that the elections were mostly peaceful and violence-free.
To my colleagues in the PDP, I thank you for your support. Today, the PDP should be celebrating rather than mourning. We have established a legacy of democratic freedom, transparency, economic growth and free and fair elections.
For the past 16 years, we have steered the country away from ethnic and regional politics. We created a Pan-Nigerian political party and brought home to our people the realities of economic development and social transformation.
Through patriotism and diligence, we have built the biggest and most patriotic party in Nigerian history. We must stand together as a party and look to the future with renewed optimism.
I thank all Nigerians once again for the great opportunity I was given to lead this country and assure you that I will continue to do my best at the helm of national affairs until the end of my tenure.
I have conveyed my personal best wishes to General Muhammadu Buhari.
May God Almighty continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
I thank you all.
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR

Labour Party scribe congratulates Buhari, hails Jonathan

As Nigerians are keeping wake overnight since Tuesday for the final declaration of the winner of the 2015 Nigeria presidential election, the National Secretary of the Labour Party,Barr. Olukayode Ajulo has congratulated General (rtd) Muhammad Buhari for winning the Presidential Poll.
The Labour Party scribe, in an official statement joined the league of elder statesmen, politicians and international figures who have been praising President Goodluck Jonathan and then congratulating Nigerians for having shown their commitment and obligations under a freely but keenly contested presidential election.
Barrister Ajulo described the result of the Presidential election exercise as win-win for all Nigerians.
The statement reads as follows:

I, Olukayode A. Ajulo, heartily congratulate the clear winner of the 2015 Presidential Election, General Muhammadu Buhari and his party, APC.

I also seize this opportunity to congratulate President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for forthrightness, his commitment to the advancement of Nigerian democracy, selflessness and resilience in the face of all odds.

The loser in this election is not Dr. Jonathan; it is the people that have been cheated, particularly those that were denied the opportunity to vote due to some ineffective smart card readers.

The battle has been lost and won, but this does not preclude a thorough and sincere appreciation of the events that transpired before during and after the election.

These events, I make bold to say, are further vindication of my earlier positions on the political situation and the electioneering process in general.

The just concluded presidential election is one that was fraught with many pitfalls.

We have never before had a perfect election in Nigeria and we have never harbored any illusion of perfection.

But in this particular case the irregularities are just too overwhelming and daunting.

The use of card readers for which had not been test run in small scale elections in the past and later resort to manual accreditation allowed for manipulations.

Nevertheless, I plead for peace in Nigeria and I urge our leaders to pursue justice for all in moving our nation forward.

The President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR also needs to demonstrate statesmanship by appealing to his supporters and kinsmen to remain calm.

The beauty of democracy is the campaign, election and declaration.

In addition, may I with every sense of responsibility and respect nominate President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for a Nobel peace Award for his indelible conduct, prior to, during and after the election. Irrespective of where his act or omission is viewed this man has saved lives of many Nigerians and non-Nigerians from probable violence that is to take place after the election.

For to be a loser, there must be a winner and for a winner to emerge there must be a loser. It is complimentary of each - ceteris pari bus.

Congratulations Nigeria

Signed
Kayode Ajulo Reloaded

Gen Abdusalami Commends Goodluck says He is a Stateman

A former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat and congratulating Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the Saturday’s presidential election.
Abubakar spoke with State House correspondents shortly after leading members of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 general elections to a closed-door meeting with Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said Buhari had earlier told him that Jonathan called him at about 5.15pm to congratulate him.
While saying that they were in the Presidential Villa to thank Jonathan for his statesmanship, the former military leader urged all stakeholders to emulate Jonathan’s sportsmanship.
He said, “We are here to ensure peace is maintained at this moment. We thank Nigerians and all international community who came to support us during the elections.
“The elections have been very peaceful despite the hitches here and there. At the end of the elections, at the counting, there are a lot of upheavals that have happened but thankfully they have been contained.
“We were at the middle of a meeting with the international observers to try to see how we can still water the tension down when gladly I called Gen. Buhari that we are going to see him. He told me that Mr. President has called him at about 5.15 pm and congratulated him and conceded defeat.
“We were spellbound and the reason we have come here is to thank President Jonathan for this statesmanship.

“In the history of Nigeria, I think this is the first time where a contestant has called his rival to congratulate him and through this point, President Jonathan maintains a point that the blood of Nigerians is not worth his Presidency and by his action, he has proven that.
“He has proven that he is a man of his word,‎ because during our interaction on this peace committee, he has always maintained that he is going to accept the result of the elections whichever way it is done. And he has proven this.”
Abubakar urged all Nigerians to join hands and assist the President in peaceful handing over.
He said all politicians, those who are celebrating and those who are ruing their loss, to give peace a chance.
The former Head of State said, “In any contest, there is always going to be a winner and President Jonathan has accepted that he lost and we want to thank him on behalf of Nigerians.
“I want to thank President Jonathan for being the statesman that he is, he has proved that he is a statesman and he has the love of this country in his heart. So, Nigerians should please help him to ensure this is real.

The two main contenders in Nigeria’s presidential election

,“For any Nigerian, who is aggrieved, the electoral law has procedures for seeking redress, so if anybody has ‎any grievance, he should apply through the law.
“I appeal again to our youth, to everybody to please give peace a chance and accept that the chief contestant himself, has accepted

Opposition Early Leads Raise Hope for Change of Government in Nigeria

Nigeria Election: Buhari’s Early Lead Boost Opposition’s Victory HopeNigeria faces an uphill task as election 2015 compilation of election results continues in bid to choose a new leader who will run the affairs of the state in the next four years. However, an uncomfortable lead  recorded so far by the opposition has not been hoped upon as results from the incumbent president’s home base are expected to knock off all pessimism on the opposition camp. Buhari has been leading with more than 2.million votes

Niger Flag: Flying higher

The year’s election is viewed as the most keenly contested with two major contestants, incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan and former Military dictator, Muhammadu Buhari running neck-to-neck in the released result on Monday night.
Two days of voting has seen  the most populous nation in African continent in continuous experimentation  of democratic system, recording above average mark in 19 years. The system gets more matured as citizen turned up en-masse in the ongoing election to express their will with less trouble and determination of purpose to choose the right candidate.
However, with the election  proceeding  in an orderly and peaceful manner, and results being released in trickles, the real challenge for the nation is the morning after when the whole result might have been collated and released giving way to the emergence of a new leader  in  fight  many analysts describe as a battle  between opposition’s craved change and continuity of a change that has taken place by the ruling party. All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed to symbolise a new change while the ruling Peoples Democratic Party parades that change has come and the populace should vie for continuity in the transformation that is on-going in the country.
However, the nation faces  an uphill task as more results are emerging and both PDP and APC are confident of victory and with the level of desperation from both sides, the morning after the release of the final result matters to the future and continued unity and co-existence of all the regions of the nation.
Both sides of the main two opposition parties are confident and vowing never to settle for anything less than victory.
Femi Fani-Kayode, spokesman for the PDP presidential campaign, told Nigeria’s Channels television: “One thing we can all agree on is this is a very close election, probably the closest election in the history of Nigeria, but we believe at the end of the day we will pull through.”
He complained of irregularities, however, including alleged APC voters who were underage or brought in from neighbouring Chad and Niger. “It’s likely we’re going to challenge some of the results coming from the north-west, but we’ll cross the bridge when we get there.”
Fani-Kayode further warned: “We have always said right from the outset that we are prepared to accept the announcement of any election result as long as it is the manifestation of the will of the Nigerian people. We will live with it. What we will not accept is any interference in the electoral process from INEC [Nigeria’s electoral commission], the opposition or anyone else. If it does not reflect the will of the Nigerian people, we shall resist it with everything that is available to us. That you can rest assured of.”
The credibility of the election and its attendant free and peaceful conduct are commendable and it is hoped that reactions after the announcement of the final result would not taint the final stages of the election.
As at Tuesday morning, opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari took a significant lead over president incumbent Goodluck Jonathan  with nothing less than half of the results already declared. The opposition candidate is leading  with 8,520,436 votes as against Jonathan’s 6,488,210, being result from  18 states. Now, another  18 states are being expected. There has been strong turn out from both party leaders’ regional areas and the trend has once again portrayed the reality that Nigeria still births in political tribal sentiments..
If the trend continues, Jonathan would be the first incumbent to suffer defeat at the ballot box in the history of Africa’s biggest democracy. The international community has called for a fair and peaceful election that would send a signal to the rest of the continent. Vote counting continues at 10.00am local time on Tuesday.
Goodluck-JonathanThe first official results declared on Monday gave Jonathan’s People’s Democratic party (PDP) victory over Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etiki state. But it was clear this would not be another walkover for the governing party when Buhari won Ogun and Kogi, both formerly loyal to the PDP.
Jonathan, 57, took the capital, Abuja, but 72-year-old Buhari won the state of Nigeria’s second biggest city, Kano, in the mainly Muslim north by an overwhelming margin: nearly 2m votes against 215,779. This may well have put him on track for the presidency.
James Schneider, editorial director of New African magazine, who was analysing the results as they came in, tweeted: “The story of the night is #Buhari getting his vote out in his areas and #Jonathan not doing so enough.”
The commercial capital, Lagos, and some of Jonathan’s bastions in the largely Christian south, including the oil-rich Niger delta, are yet to declare, and a final result is not expected until mid-day Tuesday.
The official collation of votes was carried out at an election centre in Abuja in the presence of party representatives, national and international election observers and media. Wearing traditional white agbada and gold-rimmed glasses, national election chief Attahiru Jega occasionally grilled the returning officers. “When a polling unit is cancelled, we need to know how many votes were cancelled. So I’m going to require that you … resubmit your results,” he told the returning officer for Kogi state.
The winning presidential candidate needs not only the most votes, but at least 25% support in two-thirds of Nigeria’s 36 states and Abuja to avoid a run-off.
Voting went relatively smoothly in a nation of 170 million people despite deadly attacks by Islamist extremists, allegations of political violence, and technical glitches that forced polling stations to reopen for a second day in some areas. Nigeria’s Transition Monitoring Group, which had observers across the country, said: “These issues did not systematically disadvantage any candidate or party.”
But in a rare intervention on Monday, the US secretary of state, John Kerry, and his British counterpart, Philip Hammond, said both countries would be “very concerned” by any attempts to undermine the independence of the electoral commission and distort the will of the Nigerian people.
“So far, we have seen no evidence of systemic manipulation of the process,” they said in a joint statement from the sidelines of the Iran nuclear talks in Lausanne, Switzerland. “But there are disturbing indications that the collation process – where the votes are finally counted – may be subject to deliberate political interference.”
Santiago Fisas, head of the European Union election observer mission, also told reporters that “there is not evidence of a systematic subversion of the voting process so far”. But he stressed that “collation is the most critical problem … We are watching this”.
Even before collation began, the APC demanded fresh elections in the southern states of Rivers and Akwa Ibom, alleging irregularities that include missing and false results sheets and electoral officials being replaced by government officials loyal to Jonathan. The national election commission said it is investigating numerous complaints.
Good DecisonSome 2,000 women protesting against the conduct of the elections in Port Harcourt, Rivers, were teargassed as they tried to converge on the local electoral commission offices. APC women’s leader Victoria Nyeche told Agence France-Presse: “What happened today was unprecedented … All we want is a fresh election because what happened on Saturday was a fraud.”
But fears that the election, thought to be the most expensive in African history, will be polarising and that the losing side will not accept the outcome persist. After Buhari lost to Jonathan in 2011, 800 people died and 65,000 were forced from their homes by riots in the north.

My Choice Between Volkswagon Beetle And a Six years old Toyota Camry

Presidential Election in my Country, Nigeria is less that 24 hours away, as a lawyer, I know what the law says about campaign at this hour as I also remember a popular German automobile.

In my part of Nigeria we called it Ijapa (tortoise)

I first had a ride in it when my brother came with one from school, it was his first. As a matter of fact, the Beetle was a first car for many youths before my time in the 70's & 80's. More so, for it's affordability rather than its look.

And so, it was well cherished at the time. But time soon changed and it was no longer cool to drive around in a rear-engine, four-seater, two-door car.

I drove Suzuki sidekick as a undergraduate in the 90's.

I doubt very much that even today's college students would want to be caught dead driving a Beetle with no AC, had manual transmission and even the windows had to be cranked manually.

Especially, when given a choice between that and its modern survivor, the Bug or any other car in today's world which come standard with automatic transmission, power steering, power windows, remote entry, not to mention backup camera, heated seats, GPS, etc.

I have brothers and sisters who are university students in Nigeria. I can imagine how they would feel if they're offered Beetle, our Ijapa, which by the way has to be used, since they stopped producing this car a long time ago.

So, folks as you go out to vote on Saturday, don't chose a Beetle, Ijapa! Maybe, you currently drive a six year old Toyota Camry that's running a little slow. And, yes, you'd rather drive a Lincoln MKZ but that option is not on the table at the moment. Please don't go back to driving a Volkswagen Beetle . They don't even make the parts any more and I doubt if today's mechanics still remember how to fix the it should it break down.

I've heard some people say they'd rather take their chances. But is it worth the risk? I mean, what happens when your good old Beetle gets a blown head gasket? Or when even something as little as a fuel pump goes out? Won't you be left stranded in the middle of the road?

Vote wisely!

BREAKING: SEE HOW NIGERIAN COMBATS FINALLY DESTROYED BOKO HARAM'S LAST GRIP IN GWORZA

Defence Headquarters expressed satisfaction for the support received
from Nigerians and foreigners!
Sequel to the violent and heinous crimes perpetrated by terrorists in North Eastern Nigeria, the Armed Forces of Nigeria was tasked to halt the carnage and restore sanity in that region. This resulted in the deployment of land and air forces. The deployment denied the terrorists the freedom of action they had hitherto enjoyed and they resorted to diversionary tactics known with terrorist groups around the world by carrying out isolated attacks and bombings. The series of deployment and operational effectiveness of the military were however challenged by the porosity of the borders, which gave the terrorists leverage to operate in Nigeria and retreat into safe havens in neighboring countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

IMG_2224
The recent reinvigoration of a partnership between Nigeria and these neighbouring countries under the auspices of Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) provided the desired response to the challenge, as these border areas that hitherto served as hideouts for the terrorists have been actively dominated by troops in the MNJTF. This development decimated the fighting capabilities of the terrorists, as the Nigerian military carries out a final onslaught on the nation’s enemy within the country. These successful operations have culminated in the dislodgment of terrorists from towns and communities in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states.
Just this morning, the gallant troops of the Nigerian military in a concerted and well-coordinated land and air operations have liberated Gwoza, the headquarters of their so called caliphate which they renamed ‘darul hikima’. This was preceded by successive sack of terrorists from towns and villages leading to Gwoza, the main objective.   Several of the terrorists have died and many of them captured in the process.   A lot of arms and ammunition have been recovered and the administrative Headquarters completely destroyed. A massive cordon and search has commenced to locate any of the fleeing terrorists or hostages in their custody.
IMG_2212
As at yesterday, the military has been able to take over virtually all the enclaves and hideouts where the terrorists were marauding. It is observed that some of the terrorists are currently fleeing towards border areas. The fleeing terrorists will expectedly run into subsequent encounter with contingents of partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force who have been mandated to contain them accordingly. The mop up operation in Gwoza and other liberated areas will continue in order to ensure that no vestiges of terrorists or terrorism remain in our country.
The Nigerian military and security agencies therefore thank Nigerians and our partners in the sub-region who have consistently encouraged and supported us in the course of these operations. The military is more than ever before determined to once and for all stamp out every trace of terrorism and insecurity in our country. All citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report every movement or assemblage of suspicious characters to the security forces so that NEVER AGAIN shall the evil elements re-group to terrorize or cause mayhem in our country.
IMG_2219
Thank you and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
