A powerful earthquake has shaken Chile’s capital, causing buildings to sway and people to take refuge in the streets. Reports of buildings swaying and people running into the street after quake which US Geological Survey measured at 7.9 magnitude
The US Geological Survey reports the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.9.
Chilean authorities recorded it as 7.2.
US officials say the quake was centered about 153 miles (246 kms) north-northwest of Santiago.
