Following frivolous and jaw-racking punches exchanged for full twelve rounds fight between the two Africans, Joseph Lamptey and Larry Ekundayo, the African Boxing Union Welterweight Championship tittle was claimed  by Larry 'The Natural' Ekundayo after the unanimous decision of Judges in the late last night in London (on Friday, 30th October 2015)

Three judges scored the fight which lasted 105 minutes as 119/109, 119/110, 120/118  - Joseph Lamptey earned 337 points recorded by the three judges but was unable to match up 358 points scored by Larry Ekundayo in the bout witnessed by over a thousand spectators inside the Troxy Arena in east London.

In a weigh-in on Thursday night, barely twenty four hours to the fight the Ghanian, Joseph Lamptey, described as a tough as-old-boots boxer meant to send his opponent to his heels by throwing away the Nigerian flag held by Larry. TheWeigh-in  that resulted in near fracas was not without hullabaloo that followed its video clips broadcast on TV,  as it went viral on the internet with the hashtag #flaggate. This thrilled the boxing lovers, including Larry's manager, Ben Gray to wonder how the fight would be fought back by Larry 'The Natural', whose country's flag was 'ridiculed' right in front of cameras of the global media.

Nigerian Watch, a soft sell news-magazine based in London described the scene as ''for the post weigh-in photo call,'The Natural' appeared with the Nigerian flag. This enraged Lamptey, who demanded to know where his flag was. He grabbed the Nigerian flag from Larry and flew it to the floor. For a tense few seconds it looked like the boxers might square up there and then not for the intervention of their managers.''
The Chief Executives of Hellraiser Boxing.Com  and Warrior Boxing Promotions Mr Mickey Helliet and Mo Prior respectively, who jointly organised the London's bout were happy to perceive the wild enthusiasms among the  London spectators who witnessed 'The Judgement Day' with different three long-stretched-out  fights on Friday night.

With Friday's win Larry Ekundayo has continued undefeated in all his eleven fights in this category so far.
Larry used to fight hard as a top class amateur then and presently he's pretty much in his best as a professional boxer, I'm happy he's more than prepared for World championship" said Ben Gray.
Larry Ekundayo, a Deptford London based  boxer has recently gone on the familiarization tour of Africa and particularly Nigeria, to woo support from African boxing lovers to his side, the move, according to Bimbo Roberts Folayan was to keep him focus on targeting succeses in his boxing career.

Fortunately for Ekundayo, his career that was taking a dip few seasons ago began to bounce back and Arik, a Nigerian airline  has been throwing corporate support to boost the promotion around the world-class boxer. The Ekundayo Team comprises the former President of Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom, (CANUK) Bimbo Roberts Folayan, a London based  Business Developer of the World Class Athletes, Nick Abbott and the two times African Light welterweight title winner the Nigerian Olusegun Ajose, including well as  Larry's manager Ben Gray, have been working round the clock to ensure Larry, the new African Boxing Union tittle holder continued to make progress towards attaining African Boxing Union Tittle he claimed on Friday night after beating the Ghanaian, Joseph Lamptey.

Earlier this year, Larry claimed a career-best win when he knocked out Dale Evans who lost his grip and sat down in the rings in the fifth round.

In October, Sam Eggington surpassed Evans in the bout that suggested him as the holder of British tittle. Joseph Lamptey as a distant challenger has earlier in May this year trade tackles with Sam Eggington.

Larry's accumulation of success in boxing career right from amateurship is impressive. According to the profile displayed in his website, ''Larry won Nigerian Bantam Weight champion in 1998, qualified for the All African games in 1999,  and was the Welterweight National Champion in 2000, won a gold medal in an international tournament in Germany in 2002 (at which he also won the best boxer of the tournament), quarter finalist in 2002 Commonwealth games, London ABA champion in 2006 and 2007.''
''As a professional he is the current Betfair Light Middle Prizefighter champion and undefeated in 6 pro fights with 2 stoppages to his name. Despite being a natural Welterweight he has fought all his pro fights so far at Light Middleweight as no one wants to fight him at his own weight.''

Larry 's latest victory elevates him to world ranking  and can challenge world championship tittle categories, including WBO.
Notable members of Nigerian community who came to throw their support to Ekundayo at the arena are Professor Chris O Imafidon, Mr Bimbo Roberts Folayan, Dr Godwin Kanu ( President, Nigerian Boxing Board Control), Mr Mike Abiola, DJ Abass among many others.

Over hallf a billion people worldwide now infected with Genital Herpes Viruses -WHO latest report

By Dianne Penn.
WHO headquarters, Geneva. WHO/P. Virot

More than half a billion people worldwide are being infected with the virus that causes genital herpes, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated in the new release.
World Health Organization and its partners agencies are working to speed up development of vaccines and other medicines to prevent future infections caused by the herpes simplex virus.
According to a United Nations Radio broadcast report monitored on Wednesday, "the herpes simplex virus is categorized into two types, both of which are highly infectious and incurable."
"HSV-1 is transmitted orally and causes "cold sores" or blisters in or around the mouth.
"HSV-2 is almost exclusively sexually transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, causing genital herpes."
It was further stressed that, "the World Health Organization (WHO) has found that HSV-1 is also an important cause of genital herpes".
"We can no longer think about genital herpes being caused just by HSV-2. And taken together, our two estimates of HSV-1 and HSV-2 genital infections indicate that over half a billion people have genital HSV infection. So, this is important because recurrent symptoms of painful genital ulcers in a proportion of those infected can really have a substantial impact on quality of life and on sexual relationships." said Dr Sami Gottlieb of the WHO Department of Reproductive Health and Research.
Given the lack of a permanent and curative treatment for both HSV-1 and HSV-2, WHO and partners are working to accelerate development of HSV vaccines and topical microbicides, which will have a crucial role in preventing these infections in the future. Several candidate vaccines and microbicides are currently being studied.

Regional infection estimates

Estimates for HSV-1 prevalence by region among people aged 0-49 in 2012:
  • Americas: 178 million women (49%), 142 million men (39%)
  • Africa: 350 million women (87%), 355 million men (87%)
  • Eastern Mediterranean: 188 million women (75%), 202 million men (75%)
  • Europe: 207 million women (69%), 187 million men (61%)
  • South-East Asia: 432 million women (59%), 458 million men (58%)
  • Western Pacific: 488 million women (74%), 521 million men (73%)
Estimates of new HSV-1 infections among people aged 0-49 in 2012:
  • Americas: 6 million women, 5 million men
  • Africa: 17 million women, 18 million men
  • Eastern Mediterranean: 6 million women, 7 million men
  • Europe: 5 million women, 5 million men
  • South-East Asia: 13 million women, 14 million men
  • Western Pacific: 11 million women, 12 million men

Disease symptoms

Herpes is a lifelong infection, which often has mild or no symptoms but can be detected by the presence of antibodies for HSV-1 or HSV-2 in the blood. It is difficult to determine the proportion of HSV-infected people worldwide who have symptomatic disease, as symptoms may be mild or simply not recognized as herpes. In the United States of America, about 15% of people with HSV-2 infection report a prior diagnosis of genital herpes.
When genital herpes symptoms do occur, they take the form of one or more painful genital or anal blisters or ulcers. Herpes symptoms can be treated with antivirals, but after an initial episode, symptoms can recur. Recurrences of genital herpes due to HSV-1 are generally much less frequent than for HSV-2.
Transmission of HSV most often occurs without symptoms. The virus can have a significant negative impact upon an infected person’s mental wellness and personal relationships.
People with orolabial herpes symptoms may face social stigma, and can experience psychological distress as a result. In people with weak immune systems, such as those with advanced HIV infection, HSV-1 can have more severe symptoms and more frequent recurrences. Rarely, HSV-1 infection can also lead to more serious complications such as encephalitis or ocular disease.
WHO is currently working on the development of a global health sector strategy for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including for HSV-1 and HSV-2, to be finalized for consideration at the 69th World Health Assembly in 2016

.WHO according to the UNO Radio stated that "HSV-2 genital infection increases the risk of acquiring and transmitting HIV, the virus that causes AIDS."
As part of safeguarding measures released towards combating the scale of the infections, World Health Organization has urged countries to improve data collection for both types of the herpes simplex virus and sexually transmitted infections in general.

Buhari to Ooni-Designate: "Commit yourself to era of peace, stability and progress".

President Muhammadu Buhari  has, on behalf of the Federal Government and people of Nigeria, congratulated Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi on his emergence as the 51st Ooni of Ile Ife, in Osun State and successor to the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade.
According to a release received from the Office of Femi Adesina, the presidential spokesman, President Buhari rejoiced with Prince Adeyeye on his nomination as Ooni by the kingmakers of Ife after a keenly contested but peaceful selection process, and confirmation on Monday by Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.
“As you prepare to begin the rites of ascension to the revered throne of your great ancestors, I urge you as the Ooni-designate to commit yourself to carrying all your subjects along to a new era of peace, stability and progress in Ife, Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.” The statement read.

The President then called on the Ooni-Designate to be prepared to put his new position as Ooni and principal custodian of the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Yorubas to good use in the service of his people and country.
President Buhari also urged the Ooni-designate to dedicate himself to building on, and surpassing the worthy legacies of his much-acclaimed predecessor, Oba Sijuwade, and working with government and other traditional rulers across the country to foster greater harmony, peaceful co-existence and faster socio-economic development of his people and all Nigerians.
“As you ascend to the grand throne of the Ooni of Ife, I pray that God Almighty will grant you the immense wisdom and courage that you will require to oversee further progress and greater prosperity for your people”.

Owa Obokun is hale and alive! -Chief

Stories afloat indicate that another first class Yoruba monarch, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Osun State, Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran has kicked the bucket.

Contrary to these stories that have gone viral, reliable sources maintained that Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, His Royal Highness Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran is hale and hearty as he was seen attending to a wedding party over the weekend shortly after his arrival from England.

One of the chiefs who spoke with E247 Magazine crew, Muyiwa Akinbolagbe said Oba Aromolaran is very much hale and hearty, and that he granted an interview earlier today to dispel the rumours of his death making the rounds. He further stated that the Owa Obokun was at a party this past weekend where he danced and interacted freely with guests.

“We pray for the continuous, peaceful reign of His Majesty,” Chief Akinbolagbe concluded.

The widely respected King was reportedly died on Monday by an online news portal based in the US. According to the rumoured stories no announcement of the  demise  would be made public until final fulfilment of theo traditional rites.
This is coming just less than 24 hours after a new Ooni of Ife emerged following the death of erstwhile traditional ruler in Osun state, Oba Sijuwade Okunade, who died three months ago.The Owa Obokun-In-Council as well as the Council of Obas and Chiefs in Ijesaland have condemned the rumour going round that the paramount ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran is dead, describing people peddling the rumor as wicked and callous.
This was contained in a release signed by Chief Ayo Agbede, the
Lorunyin of Ilesa, where the Chiefs affirmed that Owa Obokun returned
IMG_0135from London, where he went to grace the occasion of the late Ooni of Ife’s
son’s wedding on Thursday and held an elaborate wedding for his son in
Ibadan over the weekend.
“Initially we thought the rumour would die down naturally like many
before it but when we noticed that the rumour mill haS invaded the
social media,  we had to let the unsuspecting public know the
truth.
“It’s quite disappointing when we also read the same false report
in a popular online news website yesterday (Monday) which further
misled the public.
“Kabiyesi was full of life and he danced with several Obas, chiefs and
dignitaries from all walks of life on Saturday at Jogor Centre, Ibadan
on the occasion of his son’ wedding, Prince Adebayo Aromolaran”, the
statement reads.
The Chiefs however, noted that Oba Aromolaran has directed his
counsel,  Fashakin & Associates to institute a legal action against
the online news website, while praying God to give the paramount ruler
more graceful years on the throne of his ancestors.
Meanwhile, the Owa Obokun confirmed hearing the rumours of his transition. “That was why Kabiyesi danced heartily at the wedding to confirm that he is hale and hearty”, a family member confirmed to The Anchor Online.
Prince Adebayo Aromolaran, who got married on Saturday also confirmed that his father is alive and well. He said the rumours should be “disregarded”.
