Maku Advocates Greater Citizens’ Participation In War Against Terrorism

Maku Advocates Greater Citizens’ Participation In War Against Terrorism

The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, on Tuesday called for the commitment and collective will of citizens to enable Nigeria to overcome terrorism in the country.

Maku made the call in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Nigeria Centenary Lapel Pin Project.

He said that the Federal Government, through the military, had done so much to curtail the attacks on innocent citizens.

Maku called for the cooperation of all citizens to win the fight.

The minister urged Nigerians never to succumb to the antics of terrorists or their sponsors, irrespective of the unwarranted attacks on them.
“It is now the duty of every citizen to report the activities of people in their communities that they do not understand.

“The situation that is facing us today is quite difficult; this is a war by a few criminals against all Nigerians and this means we need to work harder as government and citizens.
“We will overcome this challenge but we must have that spirit of resoluteness as a people; our collective strength is one that will overcome everything,’’ he said.
Maku also expressed optimism that Nigeria would emerge stronger and that the challenges that threatened the economic base of a section of the country would soon be addressed.

The minister said that terrorism was not peculiar to Nigeria, stressing that other nations across the world had, in one way or the other, been plagued by activities of terrorists.
He said in spite of the setbacks, Nigeria had recorded tremendous progress in the past 100 years.
He also appealed to citizens not to despair or run down the polity because of the situation.
“Terrorism is not a Nigerian phenomenon; it is a global phenomenon that was imported by some of our people but we will overcome it with time.

“I know how our citizens feel; they feel depressed; they feel discouraged but I believe we will definitely overcome it.
“It is a passing phase but with the work that we are doing and with the cooperation of citizens, we shall overcome it,’’ he said.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr Chuks Chilaka, said that the centenary project was a private sector initiative aimed at reawakening the patriotic spirit in every Nigerian.
According to Chilaka, the pin, carrying the centenary logo, depicts homogeneity, hard work and unity of the Nigerian nation.

He said that every Nigerian was expected to wear the pin as a mark of honour and patriotism to the nation.
He said that the organisation had ordered for the production of over 500,000 pins to be sold to Nigerians, irrespective of their affiliation, as part of Nigeria’s centenary celebration.
The minister was decorated with a gold plated pin as a mark of his endorsement of the project.

' I’m Ready To Expose Sponsors Of Boko Haram ' -Goni

I’m Ready To Expose Sponsors Of Boko Haram – Adamawa Clairvoyant

A popular clairvoyant in Adamawa State, Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed Goni, a.k.a. AMG, has threatened to expose the sponsors of Boko Haram insurgency if  the group does not suspend the current bloodletting and hostilities in the country within two weeks.

Alhassan Mohammed Goni

The spiritualist expressed sympathy for President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the president is a good man and those that are targeting his administration will fail woefully.
He said having been disturbed by the bloodletting and seemingly inexorable hostilities by the group, he deemed it fit to come forward, and warned that if those behind Boko Haram fail to change their ways, he will soon expose them.
Goni added that among those sponsoring Boko Haram activities are top politicians and traditional rulers  with the sole aim of causing confusion in the country.
He said he was aware of the various nocturnal meetings held by the sect before launching attacks but was not able to curtail their attacks as he had not been permitted to do so.
“My vision always tells me whenever the Boko Haram are about to launch attacks but I was always incapacitated to stop them because I was not given express permission by the authorities to do so; but through my intervention, the intensity of the attacks is minimal”, he said.
Goni said though the present administration is facing security challenges, the president will weather the storm because he means well for the country.
He condemned the recent bombing in Abuja and urged government to take more security measures like mounting of CCTV cameras.
He called for the probe of the Chinese company handling the installation of CCTV cameras in Abuja, adding that the contract should be revoked and handed over to a more competent company.
Goni also called for more attention to agriculture as a major source of employment opportunity and the need for local government autonomy to fast track grassroots empowerment.
“Government should also look at ways of giving employment to civilian JTF in the armed forces, police and other para military organizations so that they can continue to actively contribute their quota in protecting their father land”,  Goni said.

You're not well for asking me if I'm still a PDP member' -OBASANJO explodes in London.

The organisers of the press conference earlier warned journalists not to ask questions outside OOF programmes for Africa. At the end of the press conference, as the former President was leaving the main hall, a mild drama happened  between Obasanjo and 'news-hungry' journalists.'Sir,what is your agenda for the future in Nigeria?"Obasanjo replied: "Please read my open letter once again to know

."'Your Excellency Sir,we need to ask you if you're joining the APC anytime soon since you're no longer a PDP member?"

Obasanjo waited for some minutes to gather his thoughts and then responded:

"What type of question are you asking me?I am still a card-carrying member of PDP."

The said journalist further provoked the former President Obasanjo to shed more light on the latest developments within the party and to express his personal opinion about the new PDP Chairman Muazu.

Obasanjo responded with bottled anger in the presence of some of the OOF officials.

"Do you understand English language at all?I am still a PDP member.Maybe you're not feeling well for asking me such a question."

UN Castigates Vatican for Shielding Child-Abusing Priests!

The UN on Wednesday denounced the Vatican for “systematically” adopting policies that allow priests to sexually abuse tens of thousands of children. The UN watchdog for children’s rights also demanded that the Holy See must “immediately remove” all clergy who are known or suspected child abusers.

It heavily criticised the Vatican’s attitudes towards homosexuality, contraception and abortion. It also rejected the Vatican’s argument that it cannot implement a children’s rights convention beyond its walls, claiming that the church has “placed the reputation of the church and the protection of the perpetrators above children’s interests.”
The Vatican has set up a commission to fight child abuse in the Church.
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) stated in its report that the Holy See should open its files on members of the clergy who “concealed their crimes” so that they can be held accountable.
The committee said it was gravely concerned that the Holy See has not acknowledged the extent of the crimes committed.

In the report, the committee expressed its “deepest concern about child sexual abuse committed by members of the Catholic churches who operate under the authority of the Holy See, with clerics having been involved in the sexual abuse of tens of thousands of children worldwide”.

It also lambasted the “practice of offenders’ mobility”, referring to the transfer of child abusers from parish to parish within countries, and sometimes abroad.

The committee said this practice places “children in many countries at high risk of sexual abuse, as dozens of child sexual offenders are reported to be still in contact with children”.

It comes after Vatican officials were questioned in public last month over why they would not release data and what they were doing to prevent future abuse.

In December, the Vatican refused a UN request for data on abuse, on the grounds that it only released such information if requested to do so by another country as part of legal proceedings.

In Germany, a priest whose name was simply given as Andreas L admitted in 2012 to 280 counts of sexual abuse involving 3 boys over a decade. A 2009 report also found that sexual and psychological abuse was “endemic” in Catholic-run industrial schools and orphanages in Ireland for most of the 20th century while the bishop of Bruges, Belgium, Roger Vangheluwe, resigned in April 2010 after admitting that he had sexually abused a boy for years.

The committee’s recommendations are non-binding and there is no enforcement mechanism.
