Buhari government should create space for youth-led civil societies to work and help build their capacity –Mal Ruma

By Mal Babangida Ruma
Mal Babangida Ruma, founder: Arewa Youth Awareness Innitiative (AYAIF)

Undoubtedly, the future belongs to the youth, they are also part of the “present” because they are most productive group in any society. However their productivity and contrubution to national development depend on their capacity, in terms of skills, education and financial empowerment.

To me I define the youth as 'future' hope for every nation, no nation can move forward without youth. The youth constitute 60 percent of the nigerian populations but to be unfortunate not all of them can read and write. It is also becoming increasingly clear that the national security can be enhanced by addressing the problem of youth who are the most vulnerable group in our various communities because their exuberance and idealism are always manipulated for selfish interest the adage that the devil finds work for.

An idle mind in true among the youth than any other group emerging development indicate that idleness drag them to drugs and crime, virtually All the people arrested for armed robbery and other crimes that endangers our security are young men.

The youth have also become a reserved army for unleashing political voilence on the country under cover of freedom for ethenic nationalities.
With the presence of those problems facing our youth in North and the whole country I deceded to found Arewa Youth Awareness Initiative Forum (AYAIF) which focus best on idea to buld a strong and empowared the youth. And committed to managing and educating youth into healthy, Self reciant, productive and confident youth to the achievement of positive change and transformation of patriarchal values in nigeria. AYAIFoundation is now on the batch of officially getting register as full civil society organization.

Our major concern now is Street-Begging.

The growing number of begers on the major streets of our urban centress in Northern Nigeria is not only disturbing but alarming. The category of people involved as cut across age and gender, because you now have in addition to the physically handicapped, a number of children, women and school age girls roaming the streets beggings without definite means of shalter, clothing or food. But a substantial number of the begging population are the “Almajiri” as they popularly known.

Let me remind those of us who feel to busy due to official and personal engagements, to contribute to the initiative by suporting us, that it is time for them to reflect and consider the possbility of re-paying the debt owed the society. The basic realities on groud is that this debt owed for many years need to be paid and indeed ought to be paid, by whatever yardstick of judgement. I also want to assert here that no amount of personal commitment is greater than the pursuance of this noble cause.

You do not have to be poor to feel the plans of a common man you only need to have fear of God. You any need to have humility you any need to have humanity, you must be capable of listening so that you can hear when people are crying. You must be paying attention so that you can see when the youth are losing focus and are making the wrong choices in life. You do not have to be a counselor, chairman, honorable member or governor to know this is not the way to go. You cannot see yourself as superior to the people you seek to lead. You cannot believe you are better than the man who has not been given a choice, when you do those, than you can no longer claim to see hunger and anger in the faces of people. You cannot claim to still hear when they cry no matter what position you occupy in your community in your place of work, or government, you have lost the right to lead the people.

You most begin to ask yourself the hard questions when those youths are left to rot away and their values are debased, what happens to your so-called privileged children? How are you going to face your God when this vanity comes to an end we cannot fight the hunger of the stomach when the poverty of our minds is getting stronger, so we must fight and defeat the poverty of our minds.

I also want use this opportunity to acknowledge the fact that, the Initiative at this stage need to widen the circle of consultation and subscriptions.

Finally, I am calling on the new government to consider utillizing more of those less greedy young people into process of governance and create an enabling atmosphere for their betterment by providing qualitative, accessible and affordable educational system and creating job opportunities to cater for poverty and civic crime, so that we can save more to make our roads and health system better, thereby keeping our currency within system better.

Mayweather v Pacquiao
Venue: MGM Grand, Las Vegas. Date: 2/3 May. Time: 21:00 local time/05:00 Sunday BST
Coverage: Live text commentary on the BBC Sport website
By Ben Dirs, BBC Sport in Las Vegas
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao weighed in as 11,500 fans watched on ahead of the most lucrative fight in history in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Entry to the weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Friday was $10 (£6.60), although tickets were changing hands on the resale market for $800 (£530).
The fight is set to generate an estimated $400m (£265m).
American Mayweather scaled 146lb - one pound under the welterweight limit - and Pacquiao of the Philippines 145lb.
The pair will fight for the WBC, WBA and WBO welterweight titles.
"I believe that with my skills, I'm going to be victorious," said the 38-year-old Mayweather, who is unbeaten in 47 professional fights.
"I don't take anything away from Manny Pacquiao, he's a solid fighter and it will be an intriguing match-up.
"But after Saturday, I'll still be 'TBE' [The Best Ever]."

Pacquiao, who has 57 wins and five defeats from 64 pro fights, said: "It's a great responsibility for me to give enjoyment to the fans. The fans deserve to have a good fight, whether they are a fan of Mayweather or Pacquiao.
"The Lord will always be with me and strengthen me and deliver him into my hands."
Asked about the difference in size - Mayweather is 5ft 8ins and Pacquiao 5ft 6½ins with a reach difference of five inches in favour of the American - the Filipino southpaw added: "I've been fighting bigger guys - Oscar De La Hoya, Antonio Margarito... it doesn't matter to me."
The MGM Grand was abuzz the day before the fight, with people queuing to get into the Garden Arena hours before Mayweather and Pacquiao, 36, stepped on the scales.
It was the first time tickets had been sold for a weigh-in, with proceeds going to charity, and those that bought them were given a two-hour show.

Pacquiao was introduced to the stage first and looked relaxed, taking pictures of himself and waving to the large Philippine contingent.
Mayweather, on the other hand, was booed to the stage and looked tense, as he has done all week.
Pacquiao mouthed "thank you" to his rival as they engaged in the traditional stare-down, as a good-natured build-up continued.
"I don't know what he exactly said. No, I didn't respond," said Mayweather,
The MGM Grand Garden Arena holds 16,000 but as few as 500 tickets for the fight went on sale to the general public.
Tickets are changing hands on the resale market for as much as $350,000, while some have been prepared to pay $3,500 to watch the fight in one of 10 closed-circuit venues along the Las Vegas Strip.
Given the astronomical numbers involved, the fact this is a match-up between two of the greatest boxers ever has been forgotten by some.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao: The fighters' vital statistics

Mayweather and Pacquiao have won world titles in five and six different weight divisions respectively. Whoever wins this weekend will be able to claim they are the best fighter of their era.
Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, admitted the remorseless hype had been hard to cope with.
"I've always liked big fights because I like big challenges," said Roach, who was in Oscar De la Hoya's corner when Mayweather beat him in 2007. "But, with this one, I might have bitten off more than I can chew.
"We're fighting a very good defensive fighter, but I'm one of those guys that believes offence wins fights. I think we'll overwhelm him with speed."

Roach felt both fighters had "declined a little bit", adding: "I've been watching Floyd's legs and they're not as good as they used to be. He doesn't move as fluently as he used to.
"We can knock him out late, but I really want to beat him on points. Either way, no problem."
Roach said Mayweather's relatively subdued mood in the build-up to the fight could be a sign that he is apprehensive about facing Pacquiao.
"At the first press conference, I told him we were going to kick his ass," said the 55-year-old American.
"I thought I was going to get something back, but we got nothing. He's been so nice, I really don't think he wants to be here."
Mayweather responded: "The camp went extremely smooth. I don't need to trash Manny Pacquiao, I know what I can do."

Nigerian Army Rescued another set of 234 women and children from Boko Haram Camp

Nigerian military on Friday said another set of 234 women and children have been rescued by troops in Borno State.
Some of the hostages being attended to by troops
nce spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, said the women and children were rescued through the Kawuri and Konduga end of the Sambisa forest on Thursday.
Sambisa forest had for years been a hideout for Boko Haram terrorists.
Mr. Olukolade, a major general, said the victims were evacuated to join others at a location for an ongoing screening.
“This set  in addition to the previous individuals earlier rescued during the ongoing operation in the area,” Mr. Olukolade said.
He added that the assault by the military on the forest is continuing from various fronts with the aim of rescuing hostages and destroying all terrorists camps and facilities in the forest.
The military had on Tuesday rescued 293 girls and women currently undergoing screening.
Howwever, it has yet to confirm the identities of those rescued, and whether the missing Chibok schoolgirls are among.
Defence officials said that clarification could only come after ongoing screning and profiling.

Jose Mourinho 'The Extra- Special One'

Many people grumble about how his team have ground out results to go 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League and set up a title party at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
But even his harshest critics must see the 52-year-old Portuguese coach is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to the art, science and psychology of football management.
In his second spell with the Blues - and don't forget those who say "never go back" - he has re-established absolute authority at the club and got the team playing totally to his command.
It may not be always be pretty but, boy, is it effective.
You have to admire how he provoked such a positive reaction from his players after their shock 5-3 defeat by Tottenham on New Year's Day which sparked an unbeaten league run of 14 games.
Jose MourinhoEXTRA-SPECIAL: Mourinho has proved he is a magnificent manager [GETTY]
The Capital One Cup was bagged on the way and perhaps, to a certain degree, the FA Cup and Champions League sacrificed.
That is not to say Chelsea went out on purpose - although, in retrospect, nobody seemed too bothered about the FA Cup loss to Bradford.
But, at some unconscious level, it appears Mourinho and his men knew they did not have the resources to compete on all four fronts.
That is where he deserves huge credit.
Mourinho has done it by balancing the books, in fact making a profit, to fall in line with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.
While his rivals, Manchester United in particular, have spent big, Mourinho has sold first before he bought.

Is there a single Blues fan out there who now doubts why he sold their beloved Juan Mata to Old Trafford?
Heaven knows how he has restored skipper John Terry to the player he was a decade ago.
And the way he Mourinho has made Eden Hazard work like a dog and Brazilian Oscar tackle like a lion almost defies belief.
Don’t forget, too, that for the last four games the only fit striker he has had has been Didier Drogba who is 37.
Plenty do not approve, but he has also got under the skin of Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini and, in particular, Arsene Wenger of Arsenal with his digs.
And behind all the whinging about a lack of penalties and unfair suspensions he does have a point - particular with the first point, as Sunday’s unpunished assault in the box by Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina on Oscar proved.

Of course, Mourinho has his faults and it will be interesting to see how long owner Roman Abramovich will accept dour football. But, right now, he is simply the best.
In contrast, what a shabby season it has been for Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. The Irishman looked potentially a serious rival to Mourinho after last season’s second place.
But he seems to have got ahead of himself too quickly and become obsessed with tactical changes and fancy formations.
Chelsea have been mainly 4-2-3-1 while you sense Liverpool’s players, at times, have been baffled by theirs.
Also, can you imagine Mourinho putting up with some of the antics of Anfield players like Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli this season?
With the pitiful workload the latter has been producing, he would not have got near a Mourinho team.
Sadly for Anfield fans, Rodgers is starting to look like he might be ‘The Average One'
