Less than a week after two female suicide bombers blew themselves up, killing more than 45 people at the Monday Market in Maiduguri, the market was hit again by another round of explosions on Monday.
The first explosion was detonated by a woman who reportedly approached the section where chicken is sold in the market with a bag in her hand. Witnesses said she was accosted by local security who insisted on checking her bag. She however refused and made a scene. The bomb reportedly went off as people gathered to find out what was happening. Scores of people are believed to have died.
Minutes after the explosion, a second blast went off. Someone who went to the NTA station opposite the market disclosed that the second bomb was hurled from a moving mini-van.
Meanwhile, earlier on Monday, members of the Boko Haram terrorist group attacked Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
