Brexit, The Way Forward: Time To Stop Project Fear

Brexit, The Way Forward: Time To Stop Project Fear.

By Lashley Oladigbolu

Can we endeavour to reduce the amount of inevitable losses and fears of uncertainties over the Brexit. Perhaps, most followers of the news emanating from the Commission of European Union are failing to consider the tidal waves Brexit is unleashing to the global financial markets.
Take a look again at the onset, the moment the Remain-IN was speculated to be the winning streak and Sterling leapt forward dwarfing USD in FX before abrupt Brexit turned down the the verse of financial stakes. This has shown incredibly how powerful London as the world biggest centre of financial services can launch  effectual economic downturn not only to the European community but to the entire global village. Please check the current global financial markets as every ticking moments are registering impeding chains of global recession.
Analysts are engaging themselves across different fora over the consequences of the British decision to quit the EU.
Chairman of British African Business Alliance, Mr David Smith in a response to a post on the social media by the Executive Director of Nigerian Diaspora Direct Investment Summit, Mr Bimbo Roberts Folayan, stated earlier today that : "Everyone was entitled to express their opinions and they did, to the benefit or detriment of the country and its population. I think a reversal of expectations will always bring out strong feeling, but apart from a few blatant lies, there was not corruption or fraud... It is a shame that the leaders of the country, i.e. the educated, economically active, did not account for the majority. So what we have seen is the most underprivileged, the unemployed, the older/retired populations saying that they must be heard."
He further cited one of the best analysis of the vote that he has discovered, which is useful for basic understanding of the Brexit vote, from the source below...
"-A majority of those working full-time or part-time voted to remain in the EU; most of those not working voted to leave. More than half of those retired on a private pension voted to leave, as did two thirds of those retired on a state pension.
-Among private renters and people with mortgages, a small majority (55% and 54%) voted to remain; those who owned their homes outright voted to leave by 55% to 45%. Around two thirds of council and housing association tenants voted to leave.
-A majority (57%) of those with a university degree voted to remain, as 64% of those with a higher degree and more than four in five (81%) of those still in full time education. Among those whose formal education ended at secondary school or earlier, a large majority voted to leave.
- White voters voted to leave the EU by 53% to 47%. Two thirds (67%) of those describing themselves as Asian voted to remain, as did three quarters (73%) of black voters. Nearly six in ten (58%) of those describing themselves as Christian voted to leave; seven in ten Muslims voted to remain.
-The AB social group (broadly speaking, professionals and managers) were the only social group among whom a majority voted to remain (57%). C1s divided fairly evenly; nearly two thirds of C2DEs (64%) voted to leave the EU.
You can find the detail of this at
http://lordashcroftpolls.com/2016/06/how-the-united-kingdom-voted-and-why/
According to David, UK businesses will be re-evaluating their sales markets and working out where they can secure their future orders from. If there is any significant change in activity with Europe they will be forced to look elsewhere.
"Perhaps this is an opening for African Business leaders to offer their services and contacts in opening up new markets for them in Africa... It will not be for everyone, but there will be many not working in Africa  at the moment who will welcome new distribution partners", he added.
To be continued.

Press Statement of President of Senate, Bukola Saraki

Press Statement by President of Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bukola Saraki - June 27, 2016

Today we the leaders of the Nigerian Senate reiterate our innocence against the charges filed by the Attorney General of the Federal Government of Nigeria at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on the allegations of forgery of the Senate Standing Rules document.
In our view, the charges filed by the Attorney General represent a violation of the principle of the Separation of Powers between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch as enshrined in our Constitution.  Furthermore, it is farcical to allege that a criminal act occurred during Senate procedural actions and the mere suggestion demonstrates a desperate overreach by the office of the Attorney General. These trumped up charges is only another phase in the relentless persecution of the leadership of the Senate
This misguided action by the Attorney General begs the question, how does this promote the public interest and benefit the nation?  At a time when the whole of government should be working together to meet Nigeria’s many challenges, we are once again distracted by the Executive Branch’s inability to move beyond a leadership election among Senate peers. It was not an election of Senate peers and Executive Branch participants.
Over the past year the Senate has worked to foster good relations with the Executive Branch.  It is in all of our collective interests to put aside divisions and get on with the nation’s business.  We risk alienating and losing the support of the very people who have entrusted their national leaders to seek new and creative ways to promote a secure and prosperous Nigeria.  As leaders and patriots, it is time to rise above partisanship and to move forward together.
However, what has become clear is that there is now a government within the government of President Buhari who have seized the apparatus of Executive powers to pursue their nefarious agenda.
This latest onslaught on the Legislature represents a clear and present danger to the democracy Nigerians fought hard to win and preserve.  The suit filed on behalf of the Federal government suggests that perhaps some forces in the Federal Republic have not fully embraced the fact that the Senate’s rules and procedures govern how the legislative body adjudicates and resolves its own disputes.
Let it be abundantly clear, both as a   Press Statement by President of Senate, Bukola Saraki - June 27, 2016

Let it be abundantly clear, both as a citizen and as a foremost Legislator, I will continue to rise above all the persecution and distraction that have been visited on me. In the words of Martin Luther King Junior, “the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at a time of challenge and controversy”.
I will remain true and committed to the responsibilities that my citizenship and my office impose on me. Without doubt, the highest of those responsibilities is the steadfast refusal to surrender to the subversion of our democracy and the desecration of the Senate. This is a cross I am prepared to carry. If yielding to the nefarious agenda of a few individuals who are bent in undermining our democracy and destabilising the Federal government to satisfy their selfish interests is the alternative to losing my personal freedom, let the doors of jails be thrown open and I shall be a happy guest.

Exclusive: Whistleblower promises to expose major corruption in the EFCC

  [EXCLUSIVE]
By Adenike Lucas

A well-informed source who vowed to expose the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) agency has denied that there is any "cover up" being orchestrated by the Presidential ‘kitchen cabinet staffs.'
In a twist of event, the former anti-graft officer who spoke to Adenike Lucas on the condition of anonymity, claimed that Ibrahim Magu who was allegedly linked to the ongoing arms fraud is "neck-deep" in corruption and is "trying really hard to secure his clearance from the Senate hence his reason to tarnish the image of the Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, along with the Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS)".
A recent report accused Ibrahim Magu of being connected with a member of the Arms Probe Committee, Air Commodore Umar Muhammed (rtd.), who is said to have been arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) for alleged fraud.
The news story published by This Day claiming that Muhammed (rtd.) was a front for an EFFC official stopped short of mentioning Magu and the current National Security Adviser Mohammed Babagana Monguno as the officials of the anti-graft agency whom Mr. Muhammed was allegedly fronting for.
This allegation has since been debunked by Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC's head of Media and Publicity.
In a statement issued by Uwujaren, Magu expressed that the act to link him to the arms fraud was corruption fighting back. He urged the Presidency to set up a high-powered inquiry to verify the claims of the report in view of the gravity of the issues."
But the source made it known that the current DSS DG Lawal Musa Daura was a kinsman of Nigeria's Commander-in-Chief of Armed forces, who would never sabotage the work of the President.
"This is not corruption fighting back, the brave whistleblower said. "Magu is only trying to preserve his job and that of his Godfather, Monguno who acquired a lot of properties in Abuja during Dr Goodluck Jonathan's administration." To elaborate on how embedded corruption is in the EFCC, he spoke on the matter that happened not too long ago when Senator Ike Ekweremadu was appointed an anti-corruption ambassador, the source revealed that the letter would have been seen and corrected by the chairman, Magu.
Defending the EFCC National Assembly Liaison Officer, Suleiman Bakari who gave the award, this informant who is known to Magu asked "why was the press team from the organisation invited if it was not authorised by Magu?"
Regular cadets at the commission have been unfairly laid off since the sack of the former chairman. The brave whistle blower known to Mr Magu revealed the depth at which things had taken for worse and the cover up attitude used by failing police staffs within the anti-corruption agency.
Ibrahim Magu and efcc logo copy
Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,
"Magu is not really serious about the anti-graft war". Otherwise, why did he suspend with impunity, five Regular Operatives of the EFCC, with one of the most senior even to Mr. Magu himself, for exposing the atrocities of the erstwhile boss of the agency, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde.
Describing the recent arrest of corrupt people as mind twisting, the source revealed that the acting chair is using the fight against corruption to convey selected information and indicators to audiences to influence their emotions, motives, and objective reasoning.
He claims that Magu is covering for his police colleague, Mr. Lamorde, who encouraged corrupt staff such as Suleiman Abdul, the Head of Intelligence and Special Operations Section, and one DCP. Mohammed Wakili, who fraudulently collected money from Pension cases under his investigation.
The source established a link between Saharah Reporters who recently claimed that Magu was about to be forced out by the DSS saying the the online news medium had always gotten its news from the EFCC since the days of Nuhu Ribadu.
According to him, Magu and Lamorde are "both Nuhu's boys". "They have Sahara in the palms."

Story of Dubai Properties Owned By Nigerian Army Chief Is A Terrorist Strategy -Army

TEXT OF PRESS CONFERENCE HELD BY MAJOR GENERAL LEO IRABOR THEATRE COMMANDER OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE TODAY SATURDAY 25TH JUNE 2014 IN MAIDUGURI

Major General Leo Irabor
Maj. Gen Leo Irabor. Pic. Credit:  ChannelsTV

1. The attention of Theatre Command, Operation LAFIYA DOLE has been drawn to some issues in the online Sahara Reporters of 24 June 2016 with a story line on the allegation that the COAS and his wives own some properties in Dubai. The report among other vicious and smear campaign issues, impugned that some ‘concerned officers and soldiers in the North East’ allegedly wrote a petition on the state of affairs in the Operation LAFIYA DOLE. What a baseless, unfounded and wicked insinuation! It is for this reason that I call you today to clear issues as they affect Operation LAFIYA DOLE. The other issue regarding property in Dubai is outside my purview, but has been responded to appropriately by the Acting Director Army Public Relations.
2. For the avoidance of doubt, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, since assumption of office, has taken the affairs of Op LAFIYA DOLE to a level that showed unparalleled commitment to the operational effectiveness and good welfare of troops. For example, between January till now, the COAS has provided various quantities of ammunition types, vehicles and other equipment in the Theatre. He has equally provided uniforms and boots for all the troops in Op LAFIYA DOLE. The payment of allowances and other requirements have been regular and in most cases, up-front. The COAS’ regular visits to the frontline are well known to all. The aggregate impact of the efforts is the huge operational successes being recorded in the Theatre. The morale of troops has equally risen to a level that was never witnessed in the past.
    image
3. The report further imputed that the motorcycles inducted into Op LAFIYA DOLE and employed by the Motorcycle Battalion, were used and refurbished. What a sad tale of lies! When a report of that nature was received earlier, the COAS instituted a high-powered investigation by Military Police. The findings of the investigation team revealed that the motorcycles were brand new and were delivered in crates as knocked-down-parts. The technicians who fixed some of them, failed to tighten some knots firmly which was later rectified. Ever since, the motorcycles have proven useful in various operations.
4. The Motorcycle Battalion comprises trained counter-terrorist personnel, skilled in the use of motorcycles to enhance the capability of own forces to patrol, block routes, picket and pursue any remnants of the BHTs who usually use motorcycles in terrains where four-wheel vehicles cannot manouver. So, this has proved successful in the last major major Operation CRACK DOWN which has practically brought to an end the activities of the BHTs particularly along Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu and Damaturu-Buni Yadi Biu roads, which were opened to the public earlier in the year.

5. I consider this publication as part of the concerted, organised terrorist strategy to distract our winning spirit in the war against BHT. We will not lose traction. That is our resolve. All officers and soldiers in Op LAFIYA DOLE are committed and dogged in this resolve.
6. I call on all well-meaning Nigerians, especially those who reside in the North East, being the direct beneficiaries of the great gains made by troops of Op LAFIYA DOLE under the firm direction of COAS, Lt Gen TY Buratai, to condemn this siege on their conscience. I call you to condemn this callous and irresponsible act. The publication is an attack on the good efforts by the troops of Op LAFIYA DOLE. It should be resisted in its entirety and with the endowments at our disposal.

7. On that note, let me thank the general public and other stakeholders for the huge support rendered to Op LAFIYA DOLE. We remain committed to our mandates and would not be distracted by whatever means.

8. Thank you.

LEO IRABOR

Theatre Commander

Nigerian Police Officers Must Declare Their Assets -Acting I-G

All officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Inspector-General of Police, will henceforth declare their assets, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has declared. Idris made the statement on Thursday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd).
He said that the directive was in line with Section 13 cap 15 Code of Conduct Act. “Every police officer from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to Inspector-General who are commission officers must declare their assets,“Idris said. He added that the directive would guide the conduct of police officers in carrying out their duties.
The police boss promised that under his administration, the integrity of the force would be further enhanced. “I assure you sir, that we will raise the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force to be more accountable to the people,“he said. The acting I-G added that under his command, the police would operate within the rule of law.

He said that the presence of police officers would be felt in all villages and streets across the country. Responding, Dambazau urged the acting I-G to focus on the three key issues of corruption, economy and security for the success of this administration. “You have a lot of challenges as the chief law officer of the country,“he said.
The minister urged the new police boss to collaborate with other security agencies to address the issues of crimes and post conflict resolution in the North-East. “The post conflict resolution in the North-East has to be comprehensive and holistic,“he said. Dambazau advised his guest to carry everybody along and put the right persons in the positions of command commissioners and zonal commanders.
“No matter how smart you think you are, you cannot do it alone without the support of others,“he said, and advised Idris to make the welfare of his officers a priority. He assured him of the support of the ministry to discharge his mandate. In his inaugural speech, Idris said that the police under his administration would be guided by the international core values of policing.

JNFLF alleges Army planning to overthrow Buhari's government !

Army planning to overthrow Buhari's government, says JNDLF
– The Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), a body of different militant groups has warned President Muhammadu Buhari

– The group made this known on Tuesday, June 21 while revealing that some top army officers are planning to sack Buhari’s government through a coup d’état JNDLF, which claimed responsibility for the threats issued on launching a missile attack which caused pandemonium in the Niger Delta region, stressed that people behind the coup plot were getting ready to instigate anarchy in the region, as part of their ulterior motive to overthrow Buhari’s government.

The militants revealed this in an electronic statement that some high ranking army officers were already involved in the plan of the coup, because they approached the leaders of their group, with an appeal that they should continue with the ongoing attacks on oil installations and petroleum pipelines.
JNDLF alleged that the “coup plotters” wanted to use the continued destruction of oil facilities as the real reason to overthrow the federal government.

The electronic statement released, was signed by those who identified themselves as ‘General’ Torunanaowei Latei (Creek Network Coordinator); ‘General’ Agbakakuro Owei-Tauro (Pipeline Bleeding Expert); ‘General’ Akotebe Darikoro (Commander, General Duties) and ‘General’ Pulokiri Ebikade (Intelligence Bureau). buhari's governmentThe militant group stated:
“We are constraint to let the cat out of the bag today that PresidentMohammadu Buhari should be wary about the security of this country as some military men are making move to remove him from power by instigating civil unrest in the country.
“Some top military men through their civil agents approached us to cause and continue the vandalization of the oil and gas pipelines in the Niger delta region so as to use as an excuse to take over the government from democracy to military rule in the country.
“We said no as such plan will not work and not in conformity with our genuine desire of agitation. The military want to disgrace him now and let him quickly look into the issues and make pronouncement for his administration to be in peace.
“Let president should analyze certain memo from the military concerning Niger delta region before taking action or otherwise the military will use that as a platform to remove him.
We know the issue of Niger delta is political and we preferred political solution to resolve it but if the president refused.”
Niger Delta militants The group further added that President Buhari should apply the necessary measures to solve the Niger Delta region problems, in order to for the ploy of these top military to fail. It said:
“We received several calls unknown to persuade us to continue the bombing and that when succeeded in overthrowing the government we will be placed on a better position, we said capital NO!
“When asked of their names they are above Major General’s level. They refused to disclose their names but their intonations seem like yoruba and Hausa. Our agitation is not for selfish interest but for the overall benefit of the Niger delta region.

President Muhammadu Buhari and chief of army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai
“We’ll not kidnap any person, kill or hostage taking of any expatriate in the country but will continue our agitation with clear determination to actualize our course in Nigeria.
“We believe their sinister plan because their is ceasefire in the region for dialogue, but since then the attitude and actions of the service chiefs show that such plan could work for them.”
In a news that came up earlier on Wednesday, some groups of Niger Delta militants asked the federal government to be ready for more attacks in the oil-rich region of Nigeria as the two-week ceasefire between them and the government comes to an end.
