To clear the winds of doubts greeting the phone call reportedly made to Presidents of Nigeria and South Africa by United States's President Trump on Monday, marking the US 'African Day', a video clip published by PBS has emerged.

PBS News Hour Broadcast: Press Secretary to President Donald J. Trump - clarifying that on Monday 13 February 2017, President Trump of the United States of America made telephone calls to "Presidents of Tunisia, Peru, Nigeria, Colombia and South Africa...".
 Press Secretary Spicer also emphasised  that text read-outs of the calls are available.

President Donald J. Trump spoke this week with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria to discuss the strong cooperation between the United States and Nigeria, including on shared security, economic, and governance priorities.  President Trump underscored the importance the United States places on its relationship with Nigeria, and he expressed interest in working with President Buhari to expand the strong partnership.  The leaders agreed to continue close coordination and cooperation in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and worldwide.  President Trump expressed support for the sale of aircraft from the United States to support Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram.  President Trump thanked President Buhari for the leadership he has exercised in the region and emphasized the importance of a strong, secure, and prosperous Nigeria that continues to lead in the region and in international forums.

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday afternoon spoke with United States President, Donald Trump on telephone at the request of the American President, according to CNN.
President Buhari is currently in London for medical holiday.
Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina in a statement said the conversation was cordial and President Buhari congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States, and on his cabinet.
Adesina said the two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary equipment.

“President Trump encouraged President Buhari to keep up the good work he is doing, and also commended him for the efforts made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military.
“President Trump assured the Nigerian President of US readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism. President Trump has invited President Buhari to Washington at a date yet to be announced.

“President Trump also invited President Buhari to Washington at a mutually convenient date,” the statemen indicated.



After his call with Buhari, President Trump also requested and completed a phone call with South Africa's Zuma.

According to a statement from Zuma's office, "The two presidents reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the already strong bilateral relations between the two countries. There are six hundred US companies in South Africa and strong trade relations between the two countries."
Trump and Zuma also "discussed the need to work together on multilateral issues as well especially the quest for peace and stability on the African continent," the statement said.
Trump, who so far has been mostly focused on his "America First" agenda, has not spoken at much length about his policies concerning Africa. But his controversial travel ban, one of his first major executive orders, has targeted three African countries: Sudan, Libya and Somalia.
