The family of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, has finally officially announced his death, and fixed the burial of the deceased monarch for Friday, Aug. 14, after two weeks of keeping sealed lips on his reported demise.
The late Ooni’s eldest son, Prince Adetokunbo Sijuwade, made the announcement on Wednesday at the Osun State Government House, Osogbo, where he addressed a press conference.

Sijuwade explained at the press briefing, which was also attended by Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, the Ooni’s daughter, Mrs Aderounmu Fadeyi, and members of Ife Traditional Council, that the body of the late monarch would be flown in from London on Thursday and buried on Friday at 10 a.m.
Governor Aregbesola, who also spoke at the briefing, described the Ooni’s death as a great loss to the state and the Yoruba race, stressing, however, that a king could not die in Yorubaland.
Aregbesola who disclosed that the late Ooni represented the Yoruba nation and had done a lot in uplifting the traditional institution in the state, said the late monarch informed him of his frail health, before travelling to London for treatment.
He also read the last text message he received from the late Ooni, which he had earlier described as shocking and promised to make public on a later date.
The Vice-Chairman of Ife Traditional Council, Oba Solomon Omisakin, who is the Obalufe of Iromo and High Chief Joseph Ijaodola, the Lowa of Ile-Ife, both confirmed the Ooni’s death and burial arrangements.
