Nigerian Former Oil Minister Diezani Madueke Granted Bail !




    Former minister of Petroleum Resources, Dieziani Alison-Madueke has been granted bail by the UK authorities, NUJ Europe gathered Friday night in London.

    She was granted conditional bail Friday by a magistrate court in London following her arrest by British police earlier in the day.
    The National Crime Agency said on its website only that its "recently formed International Corruption Unit has arrested five people across London as part of an investigation into suspected bribery and money laundering offences".
    The identities and nationalities of these people were not disclosed, but family members of Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke confirmed that she had been arrested in London, Mansur Liman, editor of the BBC's Hausa Service, reports.
    She was arrested alongside four others for graft and money laundering charges. All five were granted bail.
    Close associates of the former minister has vowed to challenge any extradition proceedings against her for perceived fear of unfair hearing in Nigeria and her condition due to a lingering illness she's being treated for by physicians in the United Kingdom.
    According to a family source, " The right to a fair trial is fundamental to the rule of law and to democracy itself, and we don't believe she can get that in Nigeria, he said Friday night.
