A truck drove into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day, reportedly killing dozens of people. French media say at least 60 people are dead and 100 more are injured. More as the story develops.
President Hollande on Thursday night immediately returned to the country over what the authorities are finding out to be a major criminal attack on France.
Authorities have advised people to stay indoors.
The truck driven in high speed rammed into many people who have gathered in Nice just in the time thousands of people gathered in coastal areas of Nice as part of the event to commemorate the Bastille national holidayday.
Emergency services teams arrived the scene, and prepared for any other possible attacks in the late evening on Thursday.
Reports say the driver was shooting at people indiscriminately as he drove into the crowd, killing more people in a terrible chaos. Eye witnesses said the attack was deliberate. The attack happened at 11pm at Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
