The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) of Nigeria has directed its members to Proceed on an indefinite industrial action.
This was contained in a memo obtained by a medicalworld Nigeria correspondent, and made available to NUJ Europe dated 5th June 2015 and addressed to Chapter presidents and Secretaries. Titled "Non compliance with federal government directive", the Memo read:
Going by the recent development within the health sector, with an obvious disregard of a federal government directive and a persistent deliberate attempt by the committee of chief medical directors/ Medical directors (CMDS/MDs) to blackmail the new government led by president MUHAMMADU BUHARI by plunging the health sector into another round of needless crisis
You are directed to proceed on an indefininte industrial action with immediate effect. This is in line with the ordinary general meeting (OGM) decision, "that states that centers were payment of skipping are made to non-doctors, doctors in those centers must be paid skipping"
It was signed by Dr Dan Jumbo NARD President 2014/15
