Thomson Reuters Foundation is currently engaged in a partnership with the UN Foundation to deliver journalism training regarding the coverage of the 17 new sustainable development goals (SDGs) for 2015-2030, which will be signed on a new agreement at the UN summit held in Paris in December 2015.
We will be running a training course in 33 countries, including Nigeria, and we are looking for seven journalists (whether staff or freelance) per country to attend.
We are looking for the younger, promising reporters out there, the up and coming names in sustainable reporting with a maximum of five years’ experience – or even someone whose background is not in this area but who has a marked interest.
Journalists who cover the local communities, where the achievement of these new sustainability goals might really make an impact, as well as nationwide, will be very welcome.
We will not be looking to train those who are already experts in covering sustainability and climate change.
We are currently particularly keen to find participants based in Lagos, or who can travel and stay in Lagos for five days at their own expense (travel and accommodation is not covered, unfortunately).
Our course will be taking place on the week starting May 25th and it will give participants a chance to learn from former Reuters journalists as well as to meet and interview spokespeople from relevant organisations.
Those interested can email
marta.machado@thomsonreuters.com with two samples of published work (even if not climate/sustainability-related) and a short statement on why they feel they should cover the new SDGs and hence be selected to attend our course, including details of how long they have been working in journalism.
