PRESIDENT BUHARI'S DIRECTIVE ON INGRESS & EGRESS OF NIGERIAN CITIZENS: A MOVE IN RIGHT DIRECTION - KAYODE AJULO

OPINION
I read with extreme relief the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari against undue harassment of certain Nigerians at all our international exit points especially the airports.

From all indication it is a move in the right direction by President Buhari in exhibiting statesmanship and constitutional awareness and pacesetting by directing security agents to stop undue harassment of ministers and other high profile officials of the former President Goodluck Jonathan administration.
The directive, I urge should be appreciated and commended as it is a clear departure from the new president's past military administration style.
It is important to restate that  “Unless otherwise directed by the courts, no law-abiding citizens should be barred from traveling abroad".
Nigerians irrespective of their status or background must be treated with courtesy, decency and respect pursuant to the provisions of our sacred Constitution.
By embracing principles of democracy, exhibiting and following set-down rules and regulations, as well as affirming individual fundamental rights as encapsulated in our Constitution, Africa Human Rights charters and other enabling acts, President Buhari is justifying his new toga as a born-again democrat.
I congratulate Nigerians for the good tidings which I fervently pray and hope against hope that the new fresh breathe will not be polluted.
Thank you,
Olukayode Ajulo
